Prambanan Temple

Prambanan temple located about 17 kms from yogya and its north side the main road from Yogyakarta to Surakarta. It also visible from that road. Prambanan temple is built by King Balitung Maha Sambu from Sanjaya Dynasty in the middle of the 9th century. This temple as knowns as Roro Jongrang Temple by locally, because there is a legend for this temple. The legend started when a guy whose name Bandung Bondowoso falling in love with Roro Jongrang, but she didn’t love him, then she asked Bandung to build 1000 temples in one nights. But when the temple had been built 999, Roro Jongrang cheated, she lighted fire that made chicken crowed sign the morning. Finally Bandung cursed Roro jongrang become a statue equip 1.000 temples.

This temple has three main temples in main area. There are Visnhu Temple, Shiva Temple, and Brahma Temple. Every main temples has colleagues, for the Visnhu there is Garuda, next for the Shiva there is Nandini, and for the Brahma there is Angsa. In the main temples or their colleagues temples the tourists can see the statues in it. In Brahma Temple, visible Brahma statue in it, then in Visnhu Temple, visible Visnhu statue in it. But in Shiva Temple in the middle of three main temples also the biggest in Prambanan temples has four room which has statue in its. There are Shiva, next Agastya (Shiva’s Master), Ganesha (Shiva’s Son), and Durga (Shiva’s Wife). The last statue has known as Roro Jongrang Statue which has been tell above.

Prambanan Temple also has relief with story of Ramayana. Not only has a relief of Ramayana story it also has openair stage which shows the Ramayana Ballet during the full moon in the months from May to October.
