Kota Tua Jakarta, Jakarta Old City



The old city area in Jakarta was built by Jan Pieterszoon Coen a governor general of the VOC in 1619 and the buildings are now used as the Museum include:
  • Fatahillah Museum which was formerly the city hall (staadhuis), administrative center of the VOC in Batavia, Jakarta City History Museum where we can see many of the inscriptions, as well as an underground prison that still looks sturdy and well maintained.
  • Puppet Museum Collection contains thousands of types of puppets from all over Indonesia and some from other countries such as Malaysia, Surinam, French Cambodia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, England, United States, and Thailand including traditional equipment that is usually complete puppet show.
  • Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics building that was once the Court (Raad van Justitle) containing a variety of ceramics from the ancient to modern.
  • Museum Bank Mandiri and Bank Indonesia contains about history perbankkan across Indonesia, Bank Mandiri, the museum building was formerly the Dutch trade office that developed into a company perbankkan.

There is also the first luxury homes built by Gustaaf Willem Baron Van Inhoff 1730 a German VOC officials and is now called the Red Store.

One of the largest channel is the Great Kali (de Groote Rivier), Batavia therefore known by the nickname (Koningen van het Oostenb) "Queen of the East" because of Batavia is surrounded by many canals with beautiful views.

Jakarta Old Town is an interesting place, after enjoying a variety of historical objects such as museums, old buildings, and canals, we can relax with a round bicycle rental complete with dutch style accessories. Also if we feel hungry stomach after a walk, there are two cafes which provide special food and food betawi europe, one of Cafe occupies the Dutch colonial era heritage building complete with furnishings typical of Betawi and historic photographs mounted on wall.

Lots of people come to this old town just to take pictures with an old building background, what else are still many old buildings whose condition is alarming and not maintained will be more attractive for people to mengabadikannya, and the resulting image will look classic and unique.
And this region every Saturday and Sunday there are traditional arts attractions presented by street artists, very interesting old town to visit Jakarta.
